The Missing Weathervane: A Junk Bonanza Mystery

Once upon a time...

there was a fabulous gathering of creative, friendly folks who came from near and far. Some came to sell their found treasures of salvage and nostaglia that they had painstakingly collected and curated. Many others came to be inspired and purchase goods from the sellers.

One particular shopper became immediately smitten upon seeing a beautiful weathervane in the booth of a particularly friendly and enthusiastic seller. The shopper excitedly purchased the weathervane. Because the shopper was busy with helping with the gathering she could not immediately take the weathervane from the sellers booth so the seller agreed to hold the weathervane for her {attaching a "SOLD" sticker to prevent inquiry from other purchasers}.

When the purchaser had still not taken her weathervane by the next morning of the gathering {perhaps she COMPLETELY forgot about it when she was leaving the day before - oops!}, the seller kindly asked her to claim it because she did not want to spend her day explaining to the new crop of enthusiastic shoppers that the weathervane was indeed "SOLD".

The kind seller suggested that the purchaser could put the weathervane in her white minivan for safe-keeping for the day.....her white minivan that was parked, "right outside those doors" as she pointed in the direction of the loading doors.

The happy owner of the weathervane headed to the white minivan with her weathervane. Once outside the doors, she placed the precious item in the back of the {the closest } white minvan parked outside. She also noticed there was a fabulous vintage dairy sign in the back of the minivan.

When the purchaser headed back into the gathering she passed by the kind seller of the weathervane and thanked her for letting her keep her purchase in the minivan for the day and also suggested she might want to get the dairy sign in her booth for sale, well, because it was just so fantastic!

"What dairy sign?" replied the kind seller.

"The dairy sign in the back of your white minivan" said the purchaser, beginning to panic just ever so slightly....

"I don't have a dairy sign in the back of my white minivan." replied the kind seller.

At this point the happy weathervane purchaser turned abruptly {but attempting to act ever so calmly} and ran back to the white minivan only to find that her precious weathervane had been driven off......maybe never to be seen again! But you see, dear readers, this Junk Bonanza tale has a happy ending.

After a couple announcements and some crack investigative work by the distraught purchaser {who just may or may not be your illustrious storyteller}, and finally the honest admission by the lovely seller {one Laura from Flapper Jane's} who was surprised to discovered that a weathervane had magically appeared in the back of her white minivan, the weathervane was returned to it's happy and relived purchaser!

The End.

Blog Party....Junk Bonanza Style...

When a bunch of people who write blogs about, sell and shop for fabulous vintage wares converge in one place, there must be a party! And this year's Junk Bonanza provided us just such an opportunity.

A BIG thanks goes to the Ann Schuster, owner of the Dunn Bros Coffee shop in Eden Prairie who hosted for our gathering along with her very accommodating employees. Located in the historic {and super charming} Smith Douglas More House, the coffee shop served as the perfect cozy spot for bloggers, shoppers and dealers to rest their weary feet and swap stories from the days events.

For many of us, who read one an other's blogs it was the first time we had met face-to-face! Conversations were easy and friendships were made. It was so fun to be in the company of so many like-minded people!

Pictured above are bloggers, Tracey from French Larkspur, Mary from Urban Farmgirl, Traci from Traci Thorson Photography, Becky from Farmgirl Paints, Suzanne from Privet & Holly, me, Amy from Whisperwood Cottage and Junkologie, Beth from Beth Quinn Designs and Jen from Jennifer Rizzo {also pictured on the far left is Beth Quinn's mom who traveled to show with Beth and looked to be a big help in Beth's booth!}. thanks Tracey for the photo!

This is the sweet Margo {Robolady blog and the blog writer for Flea Market Style magazine} along with Lanette Lorsung from Cottage Elements.

Two artists - Beth Quinn and Becky from Farmgirl Paints!

The always fun and 'posh' women from Vintage Posh - Junk Bonanza vendors and contributors of vintage style and whimsy!

More Junk Bonanza vendors!

This was the lively table! That's Junk Bonanza dealer Deb Haupt at the end and seated at the opposite end is the famous Tamarah {red shirt}- a junk fan who flew all the way from Australia to shop the Junk Bonanza!

As you know, bloggers are suckers for a giveaway and thanks to Ki, this party came with some great giveaways! We gave away Junk Bonanza merchandise from the Junk Revolution store to 5 lucky winners who came to the party!

** Please note ~ I did not provide links on this post to the specific bloggers sites - I have been posting links to Junk Bonanza posts on the sidebar of this blog all week long. Please visit these blogs - many of them took beautiful pictures and wrote about their Junk Bonanza experience.

Thanks to everyone who attended - it was so fun to see everyone and put a face to a name! I know for many of the dealers it was a long day so your coming made my day!
Happy Junking!

Sneak Peeks at the JUNK!

It's late {for me} but I promised you all pictures of the set-up at Junk Bonanza, and not one to disappoint, here I am! I assure you these pictures will have you dreaming of junking once your head hits the pillow!

I spent a few hours at Canterbury today - I LOVE set-up day. It is so fun to see the creative dealers setting up their booths for Bonanza shoppers!

This is what it looked like when I walked through the entrance today...

As if I was watching Fourth of July fireworks, I found myself "ooohing" and "aaaahing" as I walked down the first aisle.

I literally got goose bumps when I saw all the wonderful things that await shoppers will be blown away!

There is lots of industrial, think rust and metal with clean lines....

There are lots of letters, numbers, signs and graphics....oh my!

So, are you an Early Bird?

Happy Junking, at the Junk Bonanza!

PS - Be sure to return tomorrow, I will be posting pictures of the opening and offering a great giveaway from a Bonanza vendor!

It's Time!

Ok, here’s the plan junk fans:

Junk Bonanza is this week! And whether you are going to be in Shakopee, Minnesota or not, you will want to come back and read the blog! Today’s post features three more first-time vendors – creative individuals and businesses you will want to get to know!

Tomorrow, the day the vendors will be setting up, I will be back with my final vendor profile post and heck, maybe Ki will even allow me to post some sneak peeks for ya’all!

AND THEN….on Thursday, in celebration of the opening day of the Junk Bonanza, I will post a fantastic vendor giveaway. So whether you will be shopping the Bonanza or just wishing you could….you can come back to the Junk Bonanza blog and enter to win a great piece of junk!

Come back on Friday to see some great pictures from the opening of Junk Bonanza 2010!

Now, onto the vendors…..

Nelda and Denny Werkmeister are owners of ND MillWerk Salvage & Sales, an old house parts and architectural salvage business. Their business was born out of Denny’s love of old wood and the craftsmanship of years gone by. Their first bid for salvage rights to a house being torn down was just for fun. When they were awarded the bid a hobby was born which quickly evolved into much more when a warehouse became needed for storage!

ND MillWerk will be bringing lots of great hardware, architectural salvage, headers, trim pieces of various patterns and finishes and even some vintage wool rugs to the Junk Bonanza. Oh, imagine the possibilities!

Artist Jami Boldy is the owner of Once Upon a Barn. This first time Junk Bonanza vendor will be bringing signs and paintings painted on reclaimed barn wood, carved barn wood, art on junk, art made of junk and old fashioned ceramics, what she calls “a nice eclectic mix of stuff”. Jami says that different textures inspire a lot of her artwork.

Jami is a part time artist and a full time mom of two!

Lulu’s Upcycling Lounge is a business that happened almost by accident. Born out of owner “Lulu” McGinley’s desire to create things with her hands, Lulu’s recycles materials that were perhaps headed for the landfills – creating scarves, knitted pidge scarves, fashion ear warmers, hair accessories (headbands, ponytail holders and bobby pins) and even upcycled crayons….ok, now I am curious!
It's going to be a great week, if you are coming to the Bonanza, please find me and say "hey". If you are not able to make it this year, please come back and visit me here - I promise to fill you in on all the happenings {and make you want to come next year!}.

Happy Junking!

Hi, my name is Tracey, and I am a self-professed flea market junkie!  And, this will be my very first time going to Junk Bonanza!!!  Let's just say I am more than a little bit excited :)

I will be driving about 6 hours to get there...along with my good friends Traci and Jen {and Anne Marie, hopefully you too}...

There is so much quiet beauty in the Midwest that I am really glad we are traveling by car and not by plane to get to Junk Bonanza...

There will be hours of laughter I'm sure!

And we are on the cusp of Fall here, so there are golden hues and muted browns everywhere...with a bit of a crisp cool feel in the air...absolutely perfect weather for hunting down a few treasures...well, maybe a lot of treasures :)

One thing is for certain, I know I'm going to have a great time!  After all, I'll be with my friends!!

And, of course, there's loads of goodies awaiting us!!!  We couldn't forget about that now could we?!  I'm giddy with excitement just thinking about it...

Road trip + friends + junk = fabulous fun!

So grab a friend and jump in the's going to be an amazing show and you don't want to miss it!!!

Hope to see ya there with piles of treasures in hand :)))

Are you ready???

The whirlwind of preparations that IS Junk Bonanza has begun! I had the opportunity to meet with Ki earlier this week and it seems everything is falling into place for another great Junk Bonanza weekend – I can hardly wait!

Besides the great shopping and camaraderie, I am really looking forward to meeting so many of YOU – the vendors who have faithfully corresponded with me via email, blogger friends and junkers from near and far who share my quirky passion for all things vintage. Please visit the previous post to get the details on the blogger/vendor/shopper get-together I am hosting Friday evening, September 17 {after the Bonanza closes for the day, of course}.

I have a few more vendors to introduce you to and another guest post coming up this week. So without further adieu, let’s meet two more Junk Bonanza vendors!

Altered Ever After is the collaborative effort of Candyce Martens and her daughter Jill Kerns. Candyce began collecting antiques 25 years ago which eventually led to owning antique malls which inevitably led to her current career as an altered artist and repurposer of vintage findings.

Candyce says her daughter Jill has always been a creative soul and found her true passion about three years ago when she began creating altered art jewelry. Their collaboration results in altered everything – Halloween, windows, assemblages, collages, Witch Ware {which will be featured in Somerset Studio, September 2010}, Steampunk, Found Object and Altered Art jewelry. These and other items such as vintage findings will be available in their booth at the Junk Bonanza!

Memories Whisper Antiques is owned and operated by husband and wife duo, JoAnne and Dick Cogley. This will be their second year at the Junk Bonanza and plan to bring their favorite items – anything weathered, chippy and worn. In addition to doing shows, Memories Whisper operates as a cooperative endeavor in St. Peter, Minnesota, and sells at the Painted Porch in Medford, Minnesota.

Just six, yes 6, days left till Junk Bonanza 2010. Are you ready?

Happy Junking!

Guest Post - From a Flea Market Junkie!

My name is kasey....and i like to spend my days.....the one's where my children are not

pulling my hair the flea market.

I am really excited to be heading up to Junk Bonanza with some of my girlfriends in less then two weeks.

It will be a whirlwind i zip up and back down...but i know what i have in mind.

I'm one of those girls who knows exactly what she needs when she hits the flea.

I have my list.....but my eye still tends to wander.

{just don't tell my husband about my wandering eye..}

I love pretty things.

I love to collect pretty things.

I just finished my daughter Lola's room which i used all the vintage hat boxes i could

find though out my home....stacked them all up....and then hung some of the hats on the wall.

I like pretty things.

I love to flea market for pretty things.

Like these mix and match mirros on my bathroom wall.....

i also love to use flea market finds in the parties i have.

Take this vintage birdcage for instance.....i stuck a cake in it.

{it also helped keep me from eating it}

One of the best flea market finds was this old mirrored door i came home with last month....

i only paid $15 for it.

At first i thought it said $150.....but when i took a closer look...i about pee'd my pants.

I quickly paid the dealer....then hauled it off quicker then you can say...

pour me a glass of champagne so i can do a happy dance.

Needless to say.....this door looks real nice in my bedroom.

I love to i am always on the lookout for mix n match vintage tableware...

I also love different pieces like this turquoise bench....which came home with one of my friends....

she was quicker than i....

but i have a feeling....i will beat her to the punch when we

head up to Junk Bonanza.

I am always on the lookout for vintage frames as well.....

for my never ending collection on my wall.

I am really excited as the days tick spend a few days at one of the

best flea markets in the country.

See you there!

** Thank you to my friend Kasey for writing this guest post, it's nice to hear from flea fans -other than myself, of course! Please visit Kasey's gorgeous and fun blog Lola B's!
